SOP 072: How to prioritize your funnel initiatives

Goal
To determine which experiments to tackle first and which ones to abandon or leave for later.
Ideal Outcome
You have a clear roadmap to growth and have prioritized which experiments you want to focus on.
Prerequisites or requirements

You should already have a list of funnel experiments or business initiatives that you want to implement.

Why this is important

A streamlined process for prioritizing experiments makes sure you tackle the right experiments at the right moment and optimize your time available.
Where this is done
In Google Spreadsheets.
When is this done
Every time you want to plan your roadmap.
Who does this
The person responsible for marketing strategy in your business.

Prioritizing your experiments

  1. Open the ClickMinded Growth Strategy Template and make a copy of it.

2. List out all the experiments or initiatives that you have planned or have been willing to implement for until now.

E.g. “Launch Dynamic Product Ads on Facebook”, “Advertise on Industry podcasts and build awareness”

Note: There is no need to worry about in which order to sort the experiments. They will be sorted a few steps below.

3. Select the area of impact where that experiment is most likely to have an impact.

Note: If you are unsure, refer to the image below to understand where in the funnel your experiment might suit the best.

4. Rate your experiments on a scale of 1-5 in regards to impact to your business:

Very low Impact - Will barely grow the business or be noticeable in your KPIs.

Low Impact - Impact will be noticeable in your KPIs but very small.

Medium Impact - You will be able to easily see positive results in your KPIs.

High Impact - Your KPIs will see significant increases in performance.

Very High Impact - The highest level. Usually, only a couple of experiments deserve this rating.

5. Rate your experiments on a scale of 1-5 in regards to ease of implementation.

Note: Consider factors like how long it will take to implement, whether you need to hire external contractors, how many people will need to be involved, how much approval you’ll need from higher management, etc:

    • Very Hard

    • Hard

    • Medium

    • Easy

    • Very easy

6. Sort the “Score” column from “Z → A”

That’s it! You will see the spreadsheet will sort your score column from high to low. Higher priorities should be tackled first, and lower priority tasks should be left for later.
